Career Profile
I have spent most of my adult life working very closely with people in collaborative environments. Through my years of being a server, actor, and tour guide, I have learned the value of teamwork and proper communication within fast-paced workflows. I decided on a change of career by learning software development and have not only enjoyed writing code, but have learned how the Humanities applies to this career field. I look forward to working in an industry that values collaboration, communication, and teamwork.
Experiences
My work as the pre-work instructor for Actualize starts with being the first point of contact to students for the remote portion of the Actualize program. I hold office hours twice a week to address student questions and concerns. If students are struggling I follow up with them and offering one on one instruction. I am currently recommending changes to curriculum to alleviate pressure areas for students. To improve the experience, I took the initiative to introduce mini-lessons during regular office hours to explain and expand on concepts.
As a TA for Actualize coding bootcamp, the most rewarding experience is assisting students with their final Capstone project. The students spend the second half of class building a full-stack web app using ROR, Postgresql, and Vue.js. I help students debug, understand, and write code in order to move closer to their goals come presentation day. I also assist with daily in class exercises and coding challenges.
I worked a with team to build an admin web app for the San Jose Obrero Mission in Pilsen(Chicago). The app allows users to login with specific authentication, check-in residents, and track resident activity. For the project we used Ruby on Rails, Postgresql, HTML/CSS, and GitHub. More specifically, I worked on authentication which provided users with different levels of access
